Matter of few years…

62nd Republic day!!! This post has nothing to do with this fact, its just about small realization which happened over this holiday that how with time meaning of so many things changes drastically.

Me and My hubs had been to my moms place yesterday evening and were discussing about Tax proof submission as that’s in the air currently. Seeing our financial condition my dad remembered his days of struggle and started telling us his management in those days. And it was something like this.

My father’s first salary was Rs 560/- He had to manage house and also save some money and send it to his parents who are agriculturists. I now cannot imagine 560/- in my account and surviving just 2 days, His marriage discussion started and he had to buy gold so he saved some 3000rs and bought a chain, necklace and only 2 bangles, I was looking at my thin bracelet of 5gm which had cost me more than 10000/-. Then he married, at this point my mom and dad’s combined salary was 850/- then with this he had rent to pay, grocery and some money for his home, after an year first child was born and delivery cost for the first child was 750/- .Next they planned to own a house with this started loans etc after all of that he and mom combined income which was left in hand was 300/- per month. I and hubs were shocked to hear the amount 300/- which we had spent in minutes that after noon!!!

On the way back to our home, I started thinking that someday we will be telling stories like this to our kids and it may be like this…

Me to my Son!
Me: My first salary was 16000/- per month
Son: Mom don’t tell me I can’t imagine 16000 for a whole month we can’t survive a day with that

Me: My father bought me gold worth 2 lakh for which I had got 2 bangles a chain and a Necklace all worth few gms
Son: Mom you have gold in Grams!!! my god I am struggling to buy microgram of gold which is costing in Lakhs!!!

Me: Then I married, you were born and the Hospitalization cost was 50000/-
Son: oh my god these days it costs easily 2Lakh for normal delivery!!!

Me: Hmm!!! I and your father bought a house and loans had to be paid and we would get on hand 20000/- Permonth
Son: ***FAINT***

Back with new hope and new dream

Hope you all had a fantastic party on the New Year’s Eve and would have welcomed 2011 in a grand way or at least in the way you would love to, Here I go wishing you all a prosperous new year.

I thought of starting this year’s post on the lines of hopes, dreams and ambition as many of us would have got all new dreams, hopes and ambition for this year. I wish lots of luck to you all for achieving them. And now I will continue with my first post for this year.

One incident which I am reminded of now is that which happened few years back.
I regularly visited an orphanage which has kids of age 4-13 and I tried to spend sometime there. One such initial visit I was just getting acquainted with the kids there, so I had to come up with something to talk to the kids and get to know them well. One such day I decided to ask them what would each one of them want to be when they grow up.

Everyone was very excited to tell what they want to become. First one who sat in torn and untidy cloths stood up folding her hands and told she wants to be a doctor, the dream she had in her eyes was worth million dollars, Next similar one told that he wanted to be a Police and trust me he had started mocking police in his style, he saluted me and by then next one for my surprise stood up in some different action and told he wants to be Spiderman!!! Now what would we say How unrealistic isn’t it? But the same is not the case with that little one. He had all his dream built imagining swinging across buildings and rescuing people. Trust me, it took almost 2 weeks to explain the kid who Spiderman was and what actually his dream should be. Initial tries ended up with that kid crying when I told that Spiderman was just a cartoon character.

Slowly I was able to convince and in my next consecutive visit the same kid came running to me, hugged me and told “I don’t want to be a Spiderman, I want to be something different” I was all excited to know that, then he slowly took some chit from his pocket and showing the picture he told “I want to be him people say he is a real life hero” and the picture was of Solider who died in the Warfield. And I only then realized that this kid wanted to be Hero in one way or the other. I wished him whole heartedly and continued with the day. It’s been days I haven’t met them but I still remember the warmth of his hug, hope and ambition.
